Hicks (D), with 43,722 votes, becomes the first woman to make it to the final round in a Boston mayoral election, and employs the campaign slogan is, “You know where I stand,” a reference to her position against busing. White (D) receives 30,789 votes to finish second, followed by John Sears (R), with 23,924; Edward Logue (D), with 23,766; Christopher Ianella (D), with 18,343; Albert O’Neil (D), with 1,471; Stephen Davenport (D), with 9,016; Nicholas Abraham (D), with 2,295; Peter Hines (D), with 1,091; and John McDonough (D), with 830.
